The tennis match you’re trying to think of is Billy Jean King vs. Bobby Riggs in 1973. Riggs had actually beaten another top female player (Margaret Court) in a best of 3 sets match in May, 1973.
He challenged Billy Jean King and they played in September 1973 in a best of 5 sets match. King beat him in 3 straight sets.
I remember it from my youth.
